Description of current research
My research primarily focuses on the etiopathogenesis of periodontitis. I am investigating the connections between periodontopathogens, immunity, and systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus and preterm birth. Studies indicate a higher likelihood of periodontal diseases in individuals with diabetes. There is also evidence suggesting a correlation between periodontopathogenic bacteria and preterm birth. Additionally, I am interested in determining the risk of periodontitis in large populations by identifying oral bacteria and biomarkers from saliva. This comprehensive approach offers a deep understanding of periodontitis from various perspectives, providing valuable insights for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease.
Furthermore, my research extends to oral mucosal diseases, aiming to evaluate the connections among oral microbiota, mucosal immunity, and oral epithelium with the goal of developing novel therapeutic approaches for managing oral mucosal diseases.
